What is EV Ready Plan?

An EV Ready Plan is a fully comprehensive building power assessment and proposal created by MJR Electric, a certified BC Hydro PowerSmart contractor. Our plan includes code electrical demand calculation, BC Hydro kilowatt hour history, and power logger data reports. With this information, we can accurately assess your building’s electricity usage and capacity for EV charging. The plan also provides a proposal and estimate for electrical infrastructure upgrades and EV charger installation costs, which are eligible for BC Hydro construction rebates up to $120,000. Additionally, we assist you in applying for the EV Ready Plan incentive to receive up to $3,000 or 75% of the plan’s cost.

5 Steps to Getting an MJR Electric EV Ready Plan

To obtain EV charger grants from BC Hydro, follow these five steps with MJR Electric, a certified BC Hydro partner:

Onsite EV Ready Plan: MJR will come onsite to complete an EV Ready Plan for your strata. This report will detail what amount of EV Charging your MURB’s existing electrical system can support and the complete cost to purchase and install EV Chargers and infrastructure to each parking stall or a selected area.

The EV Ready Plan costs up to $4,000 (the majority of plans we prepare are $3,000- $3,500 + GST) and the BC Hydro incentive rebates 75% of the plan’s cost up to $3,000 directly back to your strata. You will now know what the total cost to your strata and individual units will be and you can make an informed decision about EV Charging for your building.

BC Hydro Approval: Your strata submit MJR’s EV Ready Plan to BC Hydro for approval

Infrastructure Upgrades: Upon BC Hydro Approval, your strata reviews and approves the plan based on BC Hydro EV Ready Infrastructure rebate and proceeds with Infrastructure upgrades – which usually includes panel, breaker upgrades and load management systems, in addition to running conduit and wire to the determined stalls. BC Hydro rebates up to $600 per installed charger, up to $120,000 (133 parking stalls).

Charger Installation: MJR installs your selected chargers. If your strata opt for Level 2 networked EV chargers MJR will install them, and BC Hydro will rebate up to $1,400 per charger to a maximum of $14,000.

Reimbursement: Your strata submit the certifications, permits, BC Hydro forms and invoicing all provided by MJR to BC Hydro for reimbursement.
