THE SITUATION

Alexia had done renovations in the past with other electricians, but it hadn’t gone smoothly. The jobs looked finished on the surface, but turned into a number of callbacks. Timelines were promised up front, but they ended up nowhere close to reality.

For this 9-month renovation, touching almost every floor of her Lonsdale home, that kind of unpredictability wasn’t something she could take a chance on again. She needed an electrician in North Van who could handle a full renovation-scale job, not just a repair call.

The electrical work had to keep pace with the rest of the build, coordinate cleanly with the general contractor and the designer, and shouldn’t need a second visit to fix what was supposed to be right the first time.

WHY MJR

The general contractor for this project, Jordan Lane General Contracting, had worked with us before and recommended us directly. Alexia also already knew Quinn and our team.

The interior designer on the project, Ethan Goosen from Goosen Design, worked closely with us throughout to make sure the lighting plan matched their vision.

THE WORK

We were on this project from day one, working across almost every floor of the house through the full 9-month renovation.

Because a GC and designer were both involved, our work couldn’t just meet code, it had to line up with what everyone else on the project was building toward, which meant staying in regular contact with the rest of the team throughout the 9 months.

This is the same kind of coordination we bring to renovation projects across North Vancouver and Lonsdale.

Here’s what that involved:

We started by upgrading the home’s electrical service to 200 amps to support the renovation. From there, we followed Ethan Goosen Design’s layout, installing around 40 pot lights, 4 pendant fixtures, and one chandelier throughout the home.

We also prepped the electrical system for the new oven, fridge, dishwasher, wine cooler, and EV charger going into the house, making sure the load and circuits were ready before anything got installed.

What we found along the way

Partway through the renovation, we identified sections of the home’s original wiring that no longer met current code. Rather than leaving it for a future problem, we brought that wiring up to standard as part of the same renovation, so it wouldn’t need to be revisited later.

THE RESULT

No callbacks, no blown timelines. Our electrical work kept pace with the renovation all through the nine months, exactly the way Alexia needed it from the start, done right the first time. That shows up in her daily life now.

In the kitchen, and in every room we worked in, the lighting works exactly as designed, matching the vision she and her designer set out to build. It’s become something visitors notice when they walk through the house, and Alexia has already found herself recommending MJR to people looking for their own electrician.
